The environment was electric for Brighton’s annually Winterfest game this Friday evening at Brighton High school. The usually Friday night crowd had a few more spectators and a rather large student in attendance.

The Bulldogs fed off the lively crowd and came out with plenty of energy in the opening half. At halftime, Howell and Brighton were deadlocked at, 22-22.

Steller defense from Kaylee Wendel and Alexis Miller paved the way for success for the Highlanders in the second half. Wendel and Miller held Brighton’s two leading scorers, Julianna Peitila and Dana Schemanske, to just 3 points in the final 16 minutes of play – all three points were earned at the free throw line. Schemanski opened the game with 14 first half points while Pietila scored 6.

Leah Weslock lead the offensive charge for Howell. She poured in 24 points, all from the paint or the free throw line (8-9 FT). Alexis Miller added 12 points for the Highlanders while Amanda Corsten had 9.

Howell, 14-2 (8-2), begins the opening round of the KLAA Playoffs versus Waterford Mott, next Tuesday at Home.
