Waterford Mott battled Howell all night but the Highlanders held on to win by seven points at home in the first round of the KLAA Playoffs.

Howell had a stellar crowd show up for senior night to honor seniors, Kelly Lewis and Casie Lamay, who both earned spots in the starting lineup.  It was also a “pink-out” game to honor the Susan G. Koman foundation.

Howell entered the 4th quarter with a 29-25 lead. Mott scored on the first possession of the 4th on a baseline runner to cut the Howell lead to 2 points. The Highlanders proceeded to score on their next four offensive sets to stretch the lead to, 38-29.

Howell converted 5 free throws down the stretch and coasted to the final margin, 43-36.

Alexis Miller led all scorers with 17 points for Howell.  Miller also had 5 steals on the defensive side. Leah Weslock scored 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

Howell will travel to Waterford Kettering this Thursday in the 2nd round of the KLAA Playoffs. The winner will have a berth in the KLAA Lakes Conference Championship Game next Monday.
